Effects of Exposure to Middle Frequency noise on Hair cells of the Organ of Corti

Abstract
Exposure to excessive noise is known to cause the hair cell damage in the organ of Corti. To investigate effect of high frequency noise on the morphology of the hair cell nuclei in the receptor organ of cochlear, cytological observation was carried out on the hair cells following exposure with 4 KHz, 100 dB for 24 hours.
Results obtained were summarized as follows:
1. The significant changes in the receptor organ of Corti were mainly noted in the most outer row of the outer hair cells between upper part of basal turn to entire second turn of cochlea.
2. Pycnotic nuclei, swollen nuclei, or karyolytic nuclei were mainly noted from the 8th section to the 15th section of the receptor organ of the Corti in the cochleogram.
